Over 10,000 people are killed in drunk driving accidents every year. During the holidays, like New Year’s Eve, the risk of sharing the road with drunk drivers is high. According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), “New Year’s Day is the most dangerous day of the year for drunk driving on our nation’s roadways.” Together, we can ring in the New Year safely. Have a safe and happy 2016 from Kershaw, Cook & Talley!
Our attorneys, Stuart Talley and Ian Barlow, are attending the American Association for Justice (AAJ) 2015 Annual Convention in Montreal, Canada. The annual convention provides an opportunity for attorneys around the country to come together, network and attend over 45 cutting-edge Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs.
What is Continuing Legal Education (CLE)?
Continuing Legal Education is an important part of an attorney’s career. CLE is essentially the continuing formal education of attorneys after passing their initial admission to the bar. The law is constantly changing and evolving. Attorneys certainly gain legal experience through the practice of law. An attorney’s formal legal education, however, does not end with law school. Many states, including California, require attorneys to continue their legal education. Attending courses allows attorneys to receive up-to-date information on laws, specific legal trends, litigation techniques, and the best ways to advocate for their clients. The AAJ convention is specifically designed for plaintiff’s attorneys just like us.

Stuart and Ian are discussing and brain storming with other trial attorneys from around the country about how to best serve the interests of clients and get them the results they deserve.
Kershaw, Cook & Talley pledges $5 (up to $500) for every new Facebook follower it gains through the month of July to support Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento.
Sacramento, CA – During the month of July, the law firm of Kershaw, Cook & Talley is turning its billable hours into buildable hours. For each new fan who “likes” our Facebook page, we will donate $5 up to $500 to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento.
Habitat for Humanity is a global, non-profit 501(c) (3) housing organization. Habitat believes that everyone deserves a safe, decent place to call home, and partners with the local community to revitalize neighborhoods and build, renovate, and repair homes for low-income families. Habitat considers themselves, “an empowerment program, not an entitlement program, giving people a hand-up not a handout” as evidenced by the requirement that new homeowners put in 500 hours of sweat equity (time building their home) and take on a zero percent interest, 30 year mortgage to purchase their home.
We are excited to dedicate our Facebook bimonthly to support local charities. Our goal is turning social media into a positive social impact. This month, our organization of choice is Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento in honor of 30 years building hope in our community.
Bill Kershaw, of Kershaw, Cook & Talley, states, “Habitat for Humanity is a great organization with a proven track record of instilling a sense of pride in our community and an understanding of how lucky we are to have a roof over our heads. Habitat’s efforts transform houses into homes for deserving families. Thank you Sacramento Habitat for your incredible work.”
